I actually am excited for VR movies. Like with Google storybook app… Only 100 times better.

Great Article just want to clarify one thing for those who are reading the comments. The “Minimum” Requirements, aren’t actually requirements there will be many experience where you don’t need that much power. They are saying that in order to get 100% out of your rift on launch those are the specs. I would wait to run out and buy a GTX970 or more until later, especially if you are running anything at 660Ti or above.

    1. Søren Chr. Nielsen says:

Not only that, the minimum requirements are also used as a focus for the software devs, with the team behind the Oculus Rift telling the developers that their software has to be able to run well at that requirement, at the least. So if you meet the requirements, you should be able to get great performance in any Oculus Rift VR experience in the near future. It doesn’t mean you’ll necessarily be able to run the software at maximum quality settings, but you’ll still be able to get a great experience regardless.

Interested in what content each vr will offer other than games. Hoping someone adds 3D movies (not 360°).

3D movies are already doable. It’s kind of weird to explain, but some virtual cinema apps can play 3D movies, and it’ll look 3D in the VR theater the same way it looks in a real-life theater. It’s like 3D within 3D. One of my very first experiences with these new VR headsets was a virtual theater for the Oculus Rift. Soon figured out how to get 3D movies working and it was wonderful. Come April, I’ll be able to watch all my favorite movies and shows at the theater.. at home.

        There is 3D movies (stereoscopic)
and there is 3D movies (Real 3D) and both work in VR, Stereoscopic 3D is the old 3d that looks better in VR than in the cinema, the Real 3D movies are being worked on and are either like games or full 3D captured animation, several companies, not the least porn industry are working on this and it will be big.

In the future you will be able to live stream events to your VR headset and it will be like you are there, full 360, full 3D, Full 3D sound. And being able to record your own event so you can relive them over and over again. It will be glorious.

        1. kaostheory says:

Not sure sounds like you’re getting 3D confused with 360.

          1. TruB says:

No i don’t, 360 is just 2d video wrapped around you, it could be stereoscopic, but that tech is long from perfect.
