The recent worldwide attack on 200,000 computers worldwide through the WannaCry ransomware stolen from the NSA cyber armory could be just the beginning of a year of cyber attacks. The number of stolen weapons from NSA are unknown, the attackers are still unknown and the extent of damage will be only known when offices open this Monday and the ransom collection is yet to truly begin. Another thing unknown is probably the capability to disrupt. How powerful are these cyber weapons? What can these cyber weapons do?
Cyber weapons can beam into your living room.
There are two basic uses of cyber weapons. One is for espionage, and the other is creating defense jamming and triggering enemy weapon system malfunctions. The current stolen cyber weapons were those used for espionage. The NSA assortment of cyber weapons for espionage today empowers the CIA to hack into your Apple iOS, GoogleAndroid, Microsoft Windows devices and your Samsung smart TV sets and gaming consoles.. A leak from CIA’s Centre for Cyber Intelligence in Langley Virginia published by the Wikileaks in March this year says that your smartphones and smart TV sets could be remotely hacked and turned into covert microphones, and hidden cameras snooping on you, in your own living room.
The current series of cyberweapons developed by the NSA are able to fake the source of the attacker by incorporating source codes from enemy nations. The Weeping Angel tools are bugs placed by CIA’s Embedded Devices Branch which infests smart devices including TVs. They place the target Televisions in a’fake off’ mode, so that the owner is led to believe that the TV sets are off while it operates as a bug recording conversations in a room and sending the signals back to the covert host servers owned by the CIA in remote global destinations.
More weapons could have been stolen
The current cyber attack is presumed to be from weapons stolen from one of these covert remote servers placed outside the US. Such theft and attacks on remote servers have taken place in the past and some CIA operators, it’s defense contractors, enemy nations as well as professional hackers are known to have been suspects of previous leaks. More on them later.
It is not that the NSA has been raided say the experts, but one or more of the outposts that store and operate such cyber weapons have been raided. The CIA has only issued an advisory to Microsoft which in turn issued a patch last month, that is however not a full proof safeguard against the cyber attacks. This because what all has been stolen is still not known and how many of the NSA armories have been raided is still uncertain. …..to be contd.
