We’ve got to hand it to Google and HTC – they’ve done a better job of keeping their upcoming Nexus handsets quiet than most companies this year, but we might finally have a pretty clear picture of what to expect from at least one of the new Nexus phones.
A source speaking to Android Police has revealed full specs for one of the Nexus handsets, believed to be the lower end one, codenamed Sailfish.
According to the unnamed source it will have a 5.0-inch 1080 x 1920 screen with a pixel density of 440 pixels per inch, a 2.0GHz quad-core processor, 4GB of RAM, 2,770mAh battery, 12MP rear camera, 8MP front snapper, rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, USB-C, one or more bottom-firing speakers and a top-mounted headphone jack.
In other words, while powerful it doesn’t sound quite like a flagship, and is likely to be positioned more as a successor to the Nexus 5X than the Nexus 6P.
The source also reveals that it’s made by HTC, as expected, and that it comes with 32GB of storage, though apparently it’s unknown whether other sizes will be available.
Confidence is high
Obviously coming from an unnamed source we’d take all of this with a pinch of salt, but Android Police claims they’ve been trustworthy in the past and has a confidence level of 8/10 in the rumor.
The only real spec that isn’t revealed is the make of the processor, but that’s previously been rumored to be the Snapdragon 820, which is the same chip as modern flagships like the HTC 10, though if it’s running at 2.0GHz it will be clocked slightly slower.
The source didn’t say anything about the other HTC Nexus, codenamed Marlin, but just yesterday we heard talk that it will come with a slightly speedier Snapdragon 821 chip. We’re also expecting that it will come with a larger 5.5-inch screen.
With a launch expected in around September or October we’re likely to start hearing more soon, so stay tuned.
