SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 VS LG G6 PREVIEW
MWC 2017 is a matter of days away and although we’ll only get to see one of these two new phones, there are so many rumours and leaks that we can take a decent look at how they compare in areas like design and specs. Here’s our LG G6 vs Galaxy S8 preview.
Let’s be clear, neither of these phones have been announced so we’re by no means claiming we’ve seen them or anything remotely close in order to write this comparison. That’s why it’s called a preview. However, considering how much information is leaked online ahead of the official launches there is plenty to talk about.
As with any leak, you should take the information with a pinch of salt because not all of it turns out to be correct. On the whole, though, it is on the money and we also have a small amount of official information.
GALAXY S8 VS LG G6 PREVIEW: DESIGN
Following the lead of Xiaomi and its Mi Mix, the trend for this year’s flagship phones looks sets to be bezel-free designs. Not only does this look great, but also means you get a larger screen on a phone that’s no bigger – potentially smaller – than before.
The invitation for the LG G6 launch even goes as far as to say, ‘Big Screen. That Fits.’ so it’s not like we even need rumours on this front. Reports suggest that LG is going to move away from the modular design of the LG G5 and might even ditch the removable battery in favour of waterproofing and a more aesthetic form. The fingerprint scanner will remain on the back.
Things for the Galaxy S8 won’t be as dramatically different, but will sport a similar design to the LG G6 it seems. It will also squeeze a larger screen into the frame of the device thanks to much smaller bezels. This will largely be achieved by ditching the top and bottom sections, losing the home button in the process and moving the fingerprint scanner to the back.
You can expect both phone to be made from a combination of metal and glass as previously. The leaked image of the LG G6 at the top looks similar to previous Samsung phones.
GALAXY S8 VS LG G6 PREVIEW: SPECS AND FEATURES
As mentioned above, the headline feature of the G6 and Galaxy S8 will be the screen so let’s focus on that.
Starting with Samsung, the Galaxy S8 is tipped to get a 5.8in screen with a Quad HD resolution. It also looks like the firm will bring its dual-edge technology to the regular model so either side of the screen will curve around the side towards the back. A larger Galaxy S8 Plus is rumoured to offer a 6.2in display, also with a Quad HD resolution.
The LG G6 will have a big screen but not quite as large as its rival. It will be 5.7in so only marginally smaller and will interestingly have an 18:9 aspect ratio (yes that’s 2:1) with a 1440×2880-pixel resolution. It’s not tipped to have fancy curved edges and there’s also no word on a larger ‘Plus’ model or similar so far.
We’ll sum up the rumoured specs of each phone below to give you an overview but another interesting element to talk about is the processor. While the Galaxy S8 is expected to be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, the LG G6 will not. This is reportedly because Samsung has dibs on the chip after partnering with Qualcomm to create it. So, it looks like the G6 will come with the older Snapdragon 821 instead.
