Certainly a HUGE upgrade from the Air 1! 40% faster CPU, 2.5X superior graphics, touch ID, better screen, far better camera, etc.

I’d probably be a bit disappointed as well if I bought an Air 1 and then the Air 2 comes out and destroys it.

Its like when you buy what you thought was the best car money could buy and then like 6 sort months later or whatever your car is old news. It kinda hurts the soul doesn’t.

The funny part is listening to them trying to justify to them selves why “its not worth it” somehow…

just under 1 ounce lighter and 0.05 inches thinner !!

My issue isn’t with Apple, if that kind of difference is going to be a benchmark then it only serves to show ‘reviewers’ are brainwashed by Apple to the extent that any straw will be grasped.

Also your headline says £399 to £428 yet the text has prices up to £659.

That’s live prices of what is available on the open market in the UK. You can buy the super expensive iPad direct from Apple for £659.

For about 30g lighter, it’s not worth the upgrade from the original Ipad air. And it’s not like the first air is slow and needs to be ‘speeded’ up anyway.

I traded in the Ipad 4 for the original air, because the weight difference was larger – and holding it in one hand to read, it does make a difference, but this time, it’s simply not worth it.

If someone is buying for the first time, or going from Ipad 1-4, then it could certainly be worth it, but then they could pick up the ipad air 1 for cheaper now and have the same experience.

Same experience except. 40% less powerful A7 CPU, 2.5X inferior graphics, inferior display, no touch ID, inferior camera and so on. But pretty close….

Deciding not to hang on for the second gen Air, I recently got the original and from what I’ve seen/read so far, can’t say I’m exactly kicking myself.

Sure they’ve managed to shave quite a lot off the thickness which might make it slightly less tiring to hold for longer periods of reading, browsing or whatever, but the display resolution/density remains unchanged and having to go into settings to stop it going 180° out of whack while using the iPad in a reclined position might become irksome in fairly short order.

I can see how ditching the switch saves on production costs though, the fingerprint sensor and new chipset had to be paid for without pricing the tablet out of the market after all. Saying that, that tactile little toggle is so smooth in use and does help showcase the design and quality of the original Air.

It’s fine by me that they didn’t up the display pixel count. Air Mk1 is plenty slim and fast enough for what I use it for, and I can live without the convenience of a fingerprint reader for now, but an even crisper display – now that just might have turned me a shade green!

Not an apple fan but if it £55 for the 128gb WiFi model I might be tempted…
