Great review. The device is very good. I like its
new design, but there are still issues with the screen and the size.
If they will be able to reduce its height by a centimeter, they will
instantly gain customers' trust. For now, Sony smartphones are too
big. Although, I clearly remember Samsung has made a protected
smartphone, and it had the same dimensions as a similar Sony unit.
So, guys in Japan are still good, but they can do better. Because the
size and average screen are those things that stop me from buying it.

  2. Hazel Stracke Jr. says:

Sony Z5 overheats badly. I had THREE brand new Z5 phones in a matter of weeks replaced due to overheating issues just using the normal camera…not even in video mode.

Any summer day with ambient temperature approaching 30 degrees celsius or more the phone shuts down within minutes. Might be ok if you live in cooler climate. After returning 3 x Z5 phones for overheating I guess they were sick of handing out new Z5's just for them to do the same thing. Released me from my two year contract at no cost allowing me to re-contract a new phone of my choice.

Make no mistake about it…the Z5's WILL overheat badly if you live in a country with a hot climate. It is entirely to do with the ambient temperature. The phone would get too hot to even handle it or pick it up.

  3. Heber Brekke says:

I Think Sony make a little to a BIG mistake when they changed the Waterproof Policy, make their fans a bit confuse and really disappointed. Well, that right about Z5's Price, a bit expensive maybe .. but still waiting for what Z6 offer

  5. Moshe Farrell says:

Because aesthetics. We could build buildings out of car tyres, but they look shit.

  6. Prof. Webster Treutel says:

This was brilliant AND true. Lol

  7. Willow Schinner Jr. says:

I still can't decide between getting a normal Z5 or compact

  8. Prof. Trey Rice says:

You mean a broken phone doesn't look like shit?

  9. Baylee Kassulke says:

Just bough the Z5 because of the great camera, fairly good battery life, microSD support (which you don't find on other popular phones, e.g. S6/edge,nexus 6p etc), and the design. That said, my Z1's back cover cracked 3 times though I have a roxfit cover. It seems caused by over heating which is a big let down. Hope it won't happen to my Z5.

  10. Conrad Kiehn says:

I won't buy anything that has i in front.

  11. Mrs. Brianne Leannon says:

You found a screen telling you to carry on with the thumb recognition feature to be patronising?! Man, you really seem to be trying to find anything you can to moan about.

  12. Jody Green says:

Thanx for promote reply man, i ll go for z5 premium, i hope it ll be good for remote play 😉

  13. Edgar Sporer says:

Problem with Bluetooth!!! Sony please fix asap. Looses connection randomly and doesn't reconnect. Horrible!

  14. Sylvia Rodriguez III says:

Aren't iPhone cameras are Sony cameras anyway

  15. Garrison Huels says:

It's actually virtually lag free. Very impressed with it. Hope that helps.

  16. Felton Schmeler says:

After reading this review, it feels that it is biased. This is the first SONY flagship I would buy.

Well, at least I should use it for a couple of minutes to see if it is good. Hopefully, it will not overheat.

  17. Marjorie Wilderman Sr. says:

What about negatives? I had a Z1 tablet and currently have a Z2 tablet and it has soooo many issues. The worst being that I can't turn it off without the battery rapidly draining as it blinks the Sony logo. I stopped buying Sony product all together because my perception is that the life cycle is so short it will cease to be supported with fixes by the time I buy it.

What about 4G? Can it be obtained in the US without carrier branding and bloatware? I had to import mine from the UK to get around that barrier.

  18. Malachi Berge says:

Sure, if that's what's required for it not to break from a 5cm drop it would be an improvement.
However, I don't think concrete is a good material for insulating water.. why not, say plastics? and/or metals?

  19. Prof. Jewel Schiller says:

Don't trust the hype about battery life. I chose the Z5 basically because of the 2 days battery life advertised on their website. However with very limited usage I get 7 hours tops. I have sent it back for repair many times and they tell me the phone is just fine!

Its strange because my mate has the Z5 Premium and he gets a full day of continuous usage out of his…

Sony customer care do not care and do not want to help so be aware of this before buying this phone. I will be selling this one once it comes back from Sony repair centre and going back to iPhone 6s at least they tell it how it is.

  20. Diego Schroeder says:

How is the playing with Z5 to Ps4? Is there any lag? When i try with my Lg2 , Samsung TabS and Xperia Z3 , there is a little bit lag like 1 second streaming. Is it same with Z5? If you can tell me, that ll be greatful for me, thanx.

  21. Dr. Raymond Schaefer says:

A broken phone doesn't look like shit?
Anyhow aesthetics are in the eye of the beholder. Practical concerns are not.
Every other phone mfg in history (except maybe apple) managed to do it, is Sony the only one with shitty hipster-designers?

  22. Laurel Conn says:

No glass, however thick can withstand any kind of sharp force to its edges, this is a known engineering fact that Sony purposely ignored with Z3.

I just ordered a Z5, where they seem to have fixed this issue… although the back is still glass.
Hipsters taking over all phone hardware design jobs or what?
Broken phone glass is a safety hazard, somebody should sue.

Why can't we get a waterproof phone with the highest specs where all hard stuff is protected by a plastic shell covered with rubber, so it doesn't fall out of your hand?
And why make a waterproof phone without magnetic coil charging?
I'm pretty sure the next thing I'm gonna complain about is the usb-port on Z5 😉

  23. Retta Jones says:

honestly i probably use it for sharing videos more than for calling. I have the z3 and for whatever reason sony decided to lower the overall speaker volume for the phone with its updates.

  24. Ms. Shayna Mayert II says:

will Verizon be a service provider for the Z5

  25. Estevan Stark DVM says:

Hmm, not sure the writer knows the difference between autofocus and exposure time. The second photo in the camera page is blurry because it is night and the camera wants to expose longer. This is absolutely unrelated to whether or not the shot is in focus, and is more about the cameras light metering, choice of ISO, exposure. This experiment would be relevant to image stabilization. The cathedral may well be in focus, but if your waving a camera that wants to expose 1/10 of a second because it's dark you're going to get blur with any camera with any autofocus ability.

Seems a bizarre mistake for a tech writer to make, since we're talking cameras 101 here, but I guess we all get overworked.. Would appreciate a correction of the review however.
