    Who needs that high of a screen resolution? I’m sure there will be some who makes this silly statement not realizing that this is how technology works. There are uses beyond just holding it three feet away from your face. Those who keep delving into the future of VR and have their eyes inches away from the screen will need better and better resolution. That’s why Apple hasn’t attempted to jump in. Sure they’ll say it’s gimmicky and plenty of other reasons. But at the end of the day it’s their screen which can’t handle VR without it being full of obvious dots and pixels. If they implement VR they’ll have to lose some over head by spending money on a better screen.

    I have seen the new Note 7 and it is a beauty.  I have the Note 4 and I do love this phone…but I have to say the screen on the new phone is the best ever.  Luckily for me, I can afford it and I always like having the best.  This isn’t a dress rehearsal.  Apple lost it years ago.

  3. gdach says:

    All that stuff about 4K display, etc doesn’t impress me. Why do I need that? My Note 4 displays everything as well as I need. I don’t play games or stream video on my phone, so I am all set, with my Note 4. I certainly don’t need an edge screen. My phone is in a case, so I wouldn’t see the edge, anyway. The battery life in mt Note 4 is good enough that I have never used my spare battery. I can’t think of any reason that I would pay $700-900 to replace my Note 4, with any new phone, from Sammy, LG, Apple or anyone else.

  4. Albina Hayes DVM says:

    for instance, the Note 7 can display the latest high-end 4K video content found on 4K Ultra HD televisions.”

    But it ‘only’ has a 2K screen so how does that work?

  5. clovis.leuschke says:

    @KINGYSTEVE

    My guess is, it somehow down scales the resolution. But I don’t know.

  6. rebeka.harris says:

    I do envy the Samsung hardware, I had the s7 edge for a while and it was by far the best hardware I have ever owned.  You people will think I am crazy but I honestly wish I could get IOS on the best hardware.  I can work with android, it just doesn’t fit in with my life because I am apple integrated at every phase.  Don’t get me wrong though, I agree apple is overpriced and underpowered.  I just like IOS, im not a tinkerer, I just like things to run smoothly in every aspect.  I still am jealous though.

  7. angelita60 says:

    And Apple users will cling their their low-res “retina” display mantra that they can’t tell the difference.  It’s pretty sad when an entire marketing ploy is to insult their customers that they are not good enough to tell the difference in quality or resolution, etc. (which his conceded).

  8. Mr. Javier Berge MD says:

    @chopper-TO Actually, I will happily “cling” to my LG G4… It has quite a nice display on its own and is rather fast on its own. I paid $200 for it unlocked, which means my monthly bill is only a fraction of the massive overcharging that the new-shiny chasers and fanboys get to experience.

    It lets me put all the extra cash I saved into a faster/better laptop and other more important toys, and if I break the phone, who cares? I’ll just go get another one.

    Phones make lousy avatars, folks.

    @pxw03 – OLED was still quite immature as late as 18 months ago. Context is your friend if you have the comprehension for it. 😉

  9. Malachi Monahan says:

    @Random_Walk @chopper-TO Good attitude.  I still have my Note 4, since it’s still an awesome phone and works great.  No need to jump on the newest phones every year for sure!

    Context still says Apple derided big phones and the stylus and then reversed pretty hard.

  10. Daniella Monahan DVM says:

    @chopper-TO my Note 4 took a poop on me when I updated to Marshmallow

  11. Trevor Ziemann says:

    @spmorr01 @chopper-TO Sorry to hear that man.  The Note 4 is a great phone.

  12. Marietta Dooley says:

    @Random_Walk @chopper-TO I am glad that you have more toward to your family which is a right way to do. Phone is phone as long as it can do the job just car, you do not need to buy the expensive ones or even new car.

    However, your point is comparing Apple and orange.  We are not talking about should we buy the new phone or expensive phone. 18 months ago it would be Note 4/S6 time frame, and OLED is quite improved even Note 3, S4 were display were quite beautiful.  What I want to point out is how Time Cook statements were at that time, now seems contradictory. such as “Cook brought up the brightness and experience of the display when addressing a question about whether Apple would create an iPhone with a larger display. He wouldn’t comment on the company’s plans, but criticized the focus on size and specifications as something companies do when they can’t “create an amazing experience.”

  13. frami.austen says:

    @pxw03 @Random_Walk @chopper-TO I fully agree.  Apple will say whatever hypocritical thing they want to justify their product specs at the time.  I can’t believe their customers still eat that stuff up.  Basically, everything that Apple doesn’t have is crap features you dont want….until Apple finally catches up, and then Apple is the most innovative company in the universe to do them.  LOL

  14. Mireille Lynch says:

    @Random_Walk LMAO it sounds like you’re trying to justify buying a sub par phone for yourself buddy. OLED was not immature ever, it has always been ahead of IPS displays and only continues to become better.

  15. Emanuel Klein V says:

    @chopper-TO

    This CNET article in 2015 http://www.cnet.com/news/oled-displays-theyre-awful-says-apples-ceo/   stated APPLE CEO Tim Cook argue the OLED is inferior product compared to LCD if on iPhone.

    Look at now, APPLe is going to OLED and all the people and articles saying that is a good selling point on 2017 iPhone.  What ironic!

  16. Cassie Haley MD says:

    @pxw03 @chopper-TO LOL.  Just like how they said phones bigger than 4 inches were ridiculous and no one would buy them, and then they followed suit and pretended it was innovative.  Just like they mocked the stylus and its usefulness, until they came out with the ipencil and pretended it was innovative.  I can’t believe customers gobble up this garbage.  As an informed consumer, I’m insulted.  .

  17. cborer says:

    @chopper-TO @pxw03 Apple doesn’t have customers, they have followers.  They’re loyal no matter what.

  18. Nola Kemmer Jr. says:

    @BruinGuy @chopper-TO @pxw03 You are right.  It’s a sad sight.  But maybe the headphone jack might open the eyes of some of these followers to finally break free.  Good luck to them.

    It’s crazy to think that Apple sales start to slip, and Apple responds by taking away key features.  At least Samsung brought back the waterproofing and SD card slots once customers complained.

  19. Erling Collins says:

    @chopper-TO

    What are you talking about, according to Apple lovers their LCD screen tech from 2010 is better.

  20. eruecker says:

    @juno415 @chopper-TO ha right?  They claim their 326dpi “retina” displays is “good enough” for their eyes and nothing better is needed.  That’s one of the saddest claims i hear from Apple users, that their eyes are so crappy that better displays have too much resolution for them.

  21. Abraham Hirthe says:

    There appears to be something missing from this article.  There is no mention of Apple and how this Note 7 is “similar” to some Apple product.  Common Cnet, you’re slipping 😉

  22. Letha Grady says:

    @RobertAPierce

    Apple is still not using OLED yet.  Maybe in 2017 according to rumors.  Thus display is no comparison for mobile OLED and LCD.  The incoming Apple OLED probably will come from Samsung at least initially.

  23. Miss Anya Trantow DDS says:

    @RobertAPierce >>> theres nothing iphone about the note 7…lol

  24. anabel82 says:

    Deja vu all over again.  Every time Samsung releases a flagship device it gets rated the best display ever.  Nobody can touch them in this department.

  25. Haskell Hegmann says:

    What about Gorilla Glass 5.  How does it stack up there?

  26. yaltenwerth says:

    @BruinGuy It’s supposed to be tougher so I think you’ll have to wait until reviewers get their own phones.  People aren’t destroying the demo models yet to test the new glass.
